The Grammar Translation Method
Good morning ladies and gentlemen. Let me introduce myself. My name is Uraiwan cholkasem . I’m a third years student in English major at faculty of Education, Nakhon Si Thammarat Rajabhat University. Today I’m going to talk about the grammar translation method. I will to speak for 15 minutes.
My purpose of the presentation is to explain about the grammar translation method. I have devided my presentation into 4 parts. In the first part, I will talk about the objective of the grammar translation method. In the next section, I will talk about the key feature of the grammar translation method. In the part three, I’m going to talk about Typical Technique the grammar translation method. In the last part, I would like to talk about conclusion the grammar translation method. Then, I’d ask you to save question for the end. Ok. Everybody look at this PowerPoint follows together. Ok. Now let us look at the first aspect. That is the Objective of the grammar translation method.  You know….  The  grammar translation method. Ok. Let see together.  The Grammar Translation Method is a popular method employed by a lot teachers they use this because of many reason. First, According to this method, the most fundamental reason for learning the language is to give learner access to English literature, develop their minds “mentally” through foreign language learning, and to build the kinds of grammar, reading vocabulary and translation skill necessary to pass any one of variety of mandatory written tests required at High School or Tertiary level. Second, some teachers who use the method might also tell you that it is the most effective way to prepare student for “global communication” by beginning with the key skills of reading and grammar. Finally, even say it is the least stressful for student because about all the teaching occurs in L1 and students are rarely called upon to speak the language in any communicative fashion.
That’s all I would like to say about objective of using grammar translations method next section that is the key features according to Prator and Calce- Murcai, there are 8 features First, classes are taught in the mother tongue, with little active use of the target language. Second, much vocabulary is taught in the form of lists of isolate word. Third, long elaborate explanations of the intricacies of grammar are give. The fourth step is grammar provides the rules for putting word together, and instruction often focuses on the form and inflection of words. Next ,reading of difficult classical texts is begun early. Then, is little attention is paid to the content of text, which are treated as exercises in grammatical analysis. Moreover, is often the only drills are exercise in translating disconnected sentences from the target language into the mother tongue. Finally is little or no attention is given to pronunciation.
That’s all I would like to say about key features of the section part and now let us turn to the three part is Typical Techniques. Provides expanded descry pitons of some common/ typical technique closely associated with the grammar translation method.  First, Translation of literary Passage.  For example, students translate a reading passage from the target language into native language. Second, Reading Comprehension questions. For example   students answer questions in the target language based on their understanding of the reading passage. Third ,  Antonyms/Synonyms  For example,  student are given one set words and are asked to find antonyms in the reading passage. Fourth,  Cognates. For example,   students are taught to recognize cognates by learning the spelling or sound patterns that correspond between the languages. Fifth,  Fill-in-the-blanks. For example students are given a series of sentences with new vocabulary items or with items of a particular grammar type, such as prepositions or verbs with different tenses. Sixth,  Memorization. For example, student  are given lists of target language vocabulary words and native language equivalent and are asked to memorize them. And the last one, Use words in sentences. For example, In order to show that student understands the meaning and use of a new vocabulary item, they make up sentences in which they use the new words.
OK. Now I’d like to summarize the grammar translation method.
Many people who have undertaken foreign language at high school or university even in part 10 years or so remember many of the techniques listed above for the grammar translation method. They may also recall that the language learning experience was uninspiring rather boring, or even left them with a sense of frustration when they traveled to countries where the mightily to express themselves at the most basic level.
Although this method is criticized in many ways, it also has a lot of advantages. So as a teacher please consider using it with other method.
That is outline for me write about technique teaching English and this is web site about technique presentation.http://presentationsoft.about.com/od/firststeps/p/lose_audience.htm

  1. Good job! I will correct some mistakes in your script.
    "I will to speak for 15 minutes." = will+V1 = "I will speak for 15 minutes."
In the third paragraph, "...about objective of using grammar translations method..." = "...about the objective of using grammar translation method..."
